Janurary 12th, 2010: Day #4- Workday

So far, (As Ashwyn put it) we have made progress. The Build/Research/Design team started this meeting off by presenting their Bot idea. From what they presented and defended, they want a small robot that favors maneuverability and speed over size. I personally believe that having a smaller robot that maneuvers through the tunnel has some serious flaws in it, such as a lack of ability to defend the goals and no way to transfer fields should the tunnel be blocked on either side. But, I’m just a lowly freshman, so what do I know? Anyways, after this short debate where the Build team defended their design rather well, we watched a “team building” video, teaching us about teamwork, and the value behind “crazy, off the wall” type ideas. According to the “The Deep Dive,” crazy ideas lead to good ideas which lead to the greatest idea of the time! After the video, we split up into our respective teams (which, coincidentally, I don’t seem to have a set team) and continued our progress. The Public Relations team continued looking up companies to ask for sponsorship, and put it all onto a nice, neat excel spread sheet. The Build team hung around it the workshop and continued to build up the goal. At the same time, the Build/Research/Design team looked up means to continue to proceed with their crab train drive and different wheels to put on the bottom of it. Programming team worked on setting up LabVIEW, creating an interface, and finally creating the separate pages they wanted to program.
Basically, putting in long hours after school, on weekends, and on Saturdays is what we’ll be doing for the next 5 weeks. And we’re going to be having a heck of a lot of fun between now and the end!
